WALK WITH A SCHOLAR- ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR 2014-2017
Walk With a Scholar Programme is a novel and flagship initiative of the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala at H.H.M.S.P.B NSS College for Women from 2014-15. Now it enters the second year of the programme.
Walk With a Scholar (WWS) scheme proposes to arrange specialized mentoring programs for students in Under Graduate Programs in Arts, Science and Commerce and to provide guidance for their future. The scheme introduces the idea of mentoring and builds on the concept of mentor as a ‘Guide’ and ‘Friend’. The Scheme aims at giving necessary orientation to needy students, to prepare them for employment and give them necessary guidance, motivation and necessary mental support to identify appropriate areas for higher study as well as employment. The mentoring scheme should be planned to identify the opportunities available for the scholars, the areas suitable for them, the manner in which the scholar should proceed before them and evolve ways by which they can be acquired.
Framework of the Programme:
The classes of internal and external mentoring of the first semester under-graduate students were started only after the completion of their admission on september. As much as 90 students from different disciplines were registered (Ist, IInd and III year). The programme is envisaged to provide necessary orientation, guidance and motivation to the promising students so as to enrich and nourish their talents for higher studies and better employment. For the first, second year and third year mentees External mentoring Sessions were arranged on Saturdays and Internal mentoring sessions on working days before and after the class hours and Saturdays without affecting the normal academic routine of the students and the college.
