Zoology

The Department of Zoology of the college has a long history of more than fifty years. The  BSc Zoology  Degree programme was introduced in the year 1978 under the leadership of Smt. G.Bhanumathy Amma. The vision of the department is to highlight the importance of empowering women to build healthier, educated, peaceful and prosperous societies and for that, the department is imparting quality education to undergraduate students.  The department tries to address cross-cutting issues like scientific approach, human values, gender, professional ethics, environment and sustainability through diverse programmes with the active participation of the students and neighbouring institutions. The programmes include National seminars, International webinars, extension activities, interactive sessions, alumni interactions etc. with the intention to nourish the knowledge of the students and the faculty. Presently the department is offering a graduate programme in Zoology and complementary courses to Botany and Home science. The department is also offering an open course on Human Health and Sex education to students of other departments in the fifth semester and an elective course for the sixth-semester students of our department in  Vermiculture and Apiculture. The department consists of four permanent faculty members with three PhD holders and two research Supervisors under the University of Kerala. Our students have bagged a number of ranks in University examinations in the past years. Many of the Alumni students are currently working in prestigious institutions.
