The botany department is one of the oldest departments in our college. The first-degree course in Botany started in 1957 when the college was functioning at Perunthanni Ammaveedu. The sanctioned strength was thirty-two. At first, there were only two faculty members; Smt.B. Saraswathy Amma and Smt.B.Saraswathy Devi. Smt.B.Saraswathy Amma was the head of the department. In 1959, Smt.B. Indira Bai joined as a lecturer. In 1964, Smt. Jayalekshmi Amma and in 1967, Smt. T.K Padmaja Devi also joined as teaching faculty. The goal and objective of the Botany department are to frame out a promising young generation with academic as well as non-academic efficiency. The success of this attempt depends on creating opportunities to expose their hidden talents and to involve them in more extension activities. This will increase their ability to face the society in future with confidence. Women's education and empowerment is the main aim of this college and we try our level best to contribute our share to achieve this goal. With the facility available we are trying our best
